Yoga is a lifestyle change that includes a safe diet; exercise, adjusting posture, breathing, and a whole lot more. Most of the Yoga practitioners, I know, consume more water, eat more moderately, and take more care of their bodies, in comparison to the many who don’t want to leave the couch.

Aren’t you supposed to jump up and down for at least a half-hour per day to exercise enough to lose weight?

Maybe the masses have been “brain washed” into thinking that you have to feel the pain, suffer, starve, and have a near death experience, to lose weight. Depending upon your size, the average person, in a moderate Hatha yoga class, is burning in the neighborhood of 200 calories per hour. There are Vinyasa Yoga classes, that will burn more calories, with much more flowing and active movement. Just remember, that your safety is top priority, and you will be fine.

There are also Yoga classes where you can feel the pain, heat, and suffer. This is great for those who feel the need to “pay for their sins.” Maybe this is considered “penance,” for years of consuming excessive pizza, burgers, and buffets. If you feel you must suffer, you may even find a Yoga teacher who missed his or her calling as an interrogator.

If you search hard enough, you will find a Yoga class for every niche. More moderate Yoga classes look easy on the outside of the class, but I have seen many people find them to be a challenge, on the inside of the class. The real benefit of steady Yoga practice is training for longevity. Long-term practice will yield optimum health benefits in mind, body, and spirit.

Couldn’t you just invent a Yoga pill?

This has been the ultimate dream of “couch potatoes,” but every time a weight loss pill comes out, there is a down side. Just look at the health problems that resulted from fen phen and ephedra. This should wake people up, but someone will always put their life at risk, no matter how many warning labels are printed.

In summary, the benefits of Yoga practice have always existed, through steady and safe practice. Seek out a safe teacher and go from there. Never push yourself to the point of strain. Moderation is key, so it is wise to avoid extremes.

Get the Most out of Yoga – the 3 step Blueprint

There are several reasons why you may like to hop onto the Yoga bandwagon. The reasons are many; the objective ultimately the same (with or without your conscious knowing). Whether you are looking at Yoga as a tool for organic well-being, or as an aid to disease management or even for mental peace and upmost bliss, you should adopt a blueprint for long-lasting effects.

Step 1: Purification and developing the right attitude. The maximum benefits of any Yoga practice can be had when the mind is ‘purified’ and the attitude is correct. Yoga lays down clear pointers that the aspirant should adopt towards himself and the society. These are laid out as Yamas and Niyamas. The Yamas are the social code of conduct which are 5 in number. They are Ahimsa (non-violence), Satya (Truth), Asteya (Non-stealing), Brahmacharya (self-restraint), and Aparigraha (non-possession) The Niyamas are the internal moral code. The 5 Niyamas are: Shauch (cleanliness), Santosh (contentment), Swadhyaya (self-study), Tapas (austerity), and Ishwar Pranidhana (surrender to God).

These Yamas and Niyamas are to be understood, imbibed and practiced in everyday life, 24x7. This practice brings about a remarkable purification process that makes the body most receptive to gain the maximum out of yoga practices.Today, even modern medicine has inextricably linked the mind-physical body complex as a whole for personal healthiness maintenance which only underlines the necessity of this purification process.

Step 2: Practice

While working constantly at step 1, one should commence the practices. It is important (though not easy) to discover the right Yoga instructor. In Yoga, the paths are many but the objective is one. Accordingly, there are several schools which adhere to different paths as a concentrate. Examine your inclination and obtain the tutor from the path you are inclined. For example, if your primary reason for Yoga is corporal fitness, then research yoga schools with an extensive emphasis on Asanas of the Hatha Yoga kind. Contact them to locate a suitable monitor in your area.

At HealthAndYoga, we are constantly building an exhaustive instructor directory that helps connect aspirants to teachers. You can also seek this exhaustive database by clicking here. Keep in mind, finding a suitable monitor is not easy and you may have to resort to several trials before you regard someone whom you intuitively connect to. Also, as you grow in practice, you may discover the need to move on to identify more accomplished teachers.

Step 3: Study and Reading

Regular study of Yoga books and Scriptures are an important aspect of your personal development through Yoga.Besides acting as motivational tools when your inmost soul is flagging, they provide important subtle insights which almost always spur you onto the next range.Truthfully, regular study is the only real way to grow in the absence of Guru, of whom most of us are sadly deprived in our modern lifestyle.

Making this 3-step process as your personal blueprint will undoubtedly help you get the most out of Yoga.

YOGI PHILOSOPHY.

The spirit contains within it all potentialities, and as man progresses he unfolds new powers, new qualities, into the light. The Yogi philosophy teaches that man is composed of seven principles - is a sevenfold creature. The best way to think of man is to realize that the spirit is the real self, and that the lower principles are but confining sheaths. Man may manifest upon seven planes, that is, the highly developed man, as the majority of men of this age can manifest only upon the lower planes, the higher planes not having as yet been reached by them, although every man, no matter how undeveloped, possesses the seven principles potentially. The first five planes have been attained by many, the sixth by a few, the seventh by practically none of this race at this time. THE SEVEN PRINCIPLES OF MAN. The seven principles of man, as known to the Yogi philosophy, are herewith stated, English terms being substituted for Sanscrit words, so far as may be: 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. Spirit. Spiritual-Mind. Intellect. Instinctive-Mind. Prana, or Vital Force. Astral Body. Many generations ago, from the teeming human masses of the East, where man lived in ever-present dread of war, famine, disease, flood, invasion, Yoga, a method of attaining physical and mental peace and happiness under adverse and even horrible conditions, was introduced. Humanity, in essence, has changed little in the course of historic time. The philosophy of Yoga and its practice, which enabled its practionners to survive the stresses of their time, can also enable men of the modern Western world to achieve contentment and serinity in the face of wars, terrorims, economical crisis and other perils in a fastly changing world.

Scientists who tried to trace the beginnings of the practice of Yoga have found its principles well established as far back as when the written word was new. There are many "books" of Yoga among the oldest scripts of India. These refer to a far distant past in which the secrets of Yoga were passed by word of mouth. Only the Indian form of Yoga is well known in America and Europe, but there is evidence that Yoga was known to the Egyptians and Chinese and that there were monastic societies among the Hebrew Essenes who were groups of Yoga practitioners. Perhaps the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls will reveal some of the secrets that have been lost in the shadows of the years.

Warrior Yoga

Power Yoga is traditional astanga vinyasa yoga, a dynamic branch of classical hatha yoga. But yoga goes far beyond just a mere exercise routine. Yoga is a mind-body practice in complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) with origins in ancient Indian philosophy. The various styles of yoga that people use for health purposes typically combine physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation or relaxation. Yoga is becoming popular because it has no side effects whatsoever. It gives long lasting results and is perhaps the only discipline that works as a deterrent to the development to any further disease without the help of any orally administered medicine.

Power Yoga

Power Yoga is a vigorous vinyasa-style class that emphasizes strength, endurance, and cleansing through a flow of postures connected on the breath to awaken vitality and inspiration. Its approach is gentle, helping even the stiffest bodies to yield and become flexible in a gentle way. Yoga is never an excerice/ aerobics/ physio-therapy.
